Trigger Snap 

The trigger snap has a hidden spring mechanism, making it a good option for the beach over the bolt snap because it won't clog. The opening mechanism does stick out though so if your dog shakes a lot it could be triggered open if it catches on their collar. Available in brass, silver, and black (all solid brass). Pair with a safety backup for added security.

Bolt Snap

The bolt snap is a very commonly seen snap. It operates by sliding the lever down, and it will spring shut again. The spring is exposed and can be clogged with sand, but will rinse clean. Available in brass and silver (both solid brass).

Lever Snap

The lever snap has a lever mechanism that pushes in to open the clip, and doesn't have a tab that sticks out. This makes it a little more likely to not be triggered by accident. Comes in silver and brass (both solid brass). It is a pretty large clip, at approximately 3.25" long.

Heavy Duty Bolt Snap

The heavy duty bolt snaps are a larger version of the standard bolt snap. They come in black, stainless steel, and brass. They are heavier and wouldn't be suitable for small dogs.

Auto-Locking Carabiner

The auto-locking carabiner is rated for climbing and is very strong. The only downside is the lack of a swivel capability, but it is another great option for dogs who need a more secure attachment to the leash.
